"Whether live or on CD, Belle Monroe and her Brewglass Boys are not just another Bill Monroe camp meeting, and that's a good thing. A very good thing." -Hicks With Sticks

As we head towards summer, Belle and the Boys are planning some time off mid-June through early August, and also gearing up for some recording in the fall. We're excited to be playing the Parkfield Bluegrass Festival soon (May 7th-9th), and even more excited to have Will Fourt of Five Dollar Suit and Lady A and Her Heeldraggers joining us on Dobro for our Amnesia shows and Parkfield. He's a fine musician and we're thrilled he wants to play with us!

We had a grand time at Sugar Bowl last weekend. The sun shone brightly, and so we played outside on the Judah Lodge deck. The mystery prose-giver struck again (see our April 15th, 2009 entry below) and deposited his penned thoughts and impressions of us into our tip bucket. This time he wrote:
Fuzzy hair curls complemented by Giants caps and two dazzling vixens. Smiling eyes peer gleefully under shades, exception being our ebullient frenzy-follicled friend. He is indeed exceptional! Our bassman strums a deep foundation, one as concrete as the amicable grandfather persona he exudes. He's still got quite the kick :) The other older gentleman poses a mean accomplice; stylin' easy with a genuine sincerity in his voice. The ladies need not mentioning; wish you were here! I say. The audience thanks you. 'Twas on beat. Keep rockin'!
At one point during the show Belle announced we really like hot tubs and bourbon. After the show a couple of guys said to Ted:
We've got good news and bad news. The good news is we have a hot tub and plenty of bourbon! The bad news is that we only need a guitar player and a fiddler...

We had an amazing time at the Freight & Salvage earlier this month; thanks to all the great fans who came out that night!
The Brewglass Boys are hard at work on putting together new material for our new album, due out later this year. Here's a taste of what we're working on, a live recording from our show at the Freight:
February 2010
Belle and the Boys are excited about the upcoming month and year. February sees us playing at the brand spanking new Freight & Salvage Coffeehouse on Valentines Day Feb 14th for the San Francisco Bluegrass and Old Time Festival. We'll be opening for the legendary Nashville Bluegrass Band, quite and honor, and a show you shouldn't miss!
We've been invited to play at several festivals in the coming months; Parkfield Bluegrass Festival, The Good Old Fashioned Bluegrass Festival and Hobbs Grove Bluegrass Festival, with more to be added soon. Check out our calendar for more details.
January 1, 2010
2009 was a momentous one for the Brewglass Boys. We were featured at two of our favorite festivals, Wintergrass and Rockygrass. We began working on a new album, to be released later this year. And we had another year full of fun evenings with great friends, brews, and tunes.
2009 was also the year that we lost our dear friend and band-mate, Rick Hendricks. Rick passed on December 7, on the very night that a huge group of his friends was gathered to honor and celebrate his life by making music together. We will miss Rick, and carry him in our hearts and music as we launch into our 9th year. 2010 promises to be an exciting year for us, and we hope you'll join us this Monday January 4th at Amnesia as we ring in the new year, Brewglass style!
Goodbye to our friend Rick Hendricks
On December 7, 2009, as a huge group of his friends was gathered to honor and celebrate his life by making music together, Rick passed away. We will miss him dearly. His music and spirit will always be imprinted on Belle Monroe & her Brewglass Boys.
We will be playing at a very special show coming up on December 7th, a Tribute to our longtime Brewglass Boys band-mate, friend, and all around great musician "Resonator" Rick Hendricks.
Rick was diagnosed a little over year ago with brain cancer, and despite treatment his health has declined recently to he point of hospice care. Please come out to Amnesia on Monday December 7th to raise glass to Rick while being entertained by many of the many bands and musicians who have had the honor of playing with Rick over the past few decades. Rick is too sick to be in attendance, but he'll feel the love.
It should be a special evening, hosted by Belle Monroe and Her Brewglass Boys, and also with: The Shut-Ins, The Jiffy Mellows, Steve Norris, The Anchor Band, Babar Jug Band, Kevin Johnson, Jivanno's Cutlery Service, Gayle Lynn, and Rick's nephew Alex!
September 2009
Belle and the Boys have been laying low, working out some new material and arrangements. Our plan is to record a new album over the winter for a spring 2010 release... stay tuned!
In the meantime, you can always catch us at Amnesia on the first Monday of each month; we should be debuting some of those new songs in October! Also in October, we'll be celebrating Hardly Strictly Bluegrass weekend with a show at the Plough & Stars on Saturday 10/3. We're sharing the bill with our friends Gayle Lynn and the Hired Hands, and the Shut-Ins. See you there!
